BillBeacon ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application.
We built BillBeacon with privacy at the core. We believe you should have clear visibility into your recurring charges without sacrificing your personal data.
Information We Collect
Bank Connection Data
When you connect your bank account through Plaid, we receive:
- Transaction data (merchant names, amounts, dates)
- Account identifiers (for syncing purposes only)
We do NOT receive or store:
- Your bank login credentials (username/password)
- Account numbers or routing numbers
- Your full transaction history beyond what's needed for subscription detection
Device Information
We collect a device identifier to associate your subscriptions with your device. This allows you to use BillBeacon without creating an account.
Usage Data
We collect minimal usage data to improve the app, such as which features are used most frequently. This data is anonymized and cannot be linked to individual users.
How We Use Plaid
Bank connections are powered by Plaid, a trusted financial data platform used by thousands of apps and financial institutions.
When you connect your bank:
- You authenticate directly with your bank through Plaid's secure interface
- Plaid securely retrieves your transaction data
- We receive only the data needed to identify recurring charges
- We store an encrypted access token to sync new transactions
Your bank credentials are never shared with BillBeacon. Plaid uses bank-grade encryption and security practices.
Data Storage & Security
We take your data security seriously:
- Access tokens are encrypted using industry-standard encryption (Fernet/AES)
- All data transmission uses HTTPS/TLS encryption
- We use secure cloud infrastructure with regular security audits
- Your subscription data is stored locally on your device when possible
Data Retention
We retain your data only as long as necessary to provide our services:
- Transaction data is processed and used to detect subscriptions, then discarded
- Your detected subscriptions are stored until you delete them or your account
- Access tokens are stored until you disconnect your bank account
Your Rights & Controls
You have full control over your data:
- Disconnect anytime: Remove your bank connection from the app settings
- Delete your data: Request complete deletion of all your data
- Export your data: Download your subscription information
- Access your data: View all data we have about you
What We Don't Do
- We do NOT sell your data to third parties
- We do NOT share your data with advertisers
- We do NOT use your data for marketing purposes
- We do NOT store your bank login credentials
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes through the app or by email. Your continued use of BillBeacon after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
